October 2020 began with two high-level conferences dedicated to the role of hydrogen in the decarbonisation of the heavy-duty industry. On 1 October, CEOs and experts from key industries, EU decision-makers, end-users and infrastructure providers met to discuss how zero-emission commercial vehicles can help decarbonise the road transport sector.

On 2 July, H2Haul partners and stakeholders met – virtually – at the first meeting of the Observer Group to discuss current and future legislation on zero-emissions, hydrogen fuel cell trucks and market opportunities for the introduction of hydrogen technologies.
Air Liquide announces the installation of the first high-pressure hydrogen refuelling station in Europe, with the capacity to serve the first fleet of long-haul hydrogen trucks. This investment reflects the Group’s strategy to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen energy through large-scale projects, particularly in the heavy vehicle segment.
On Wednesday, 1 April, a 27-tonne hydrogen fuel cell rigid truck built by VDL started its first demonstration with BREYTNER as part of the EU-funded H2-Share project in Schelluinen, the Netherlands.
